Bless your Kindle

Hey fuckers. I got tired of carrying around 5 books at a time. If you like reading like me, you can't really go wrong with Kindle right now. They're competing with the Nook and a bunch of others so prices are lower than eva! I like the smaller one, which a friend recommended to me.

Distance

It’s my last night before leaving for a roadtrip through the South, so Nathanial wants to do something special. Sushi. Last time he talked me in to sushi I wound up in the hospital with appendicitis. Going to Jpan in Park Slope brings up a host of feelings, memories of when we first started dating about one year ago, the nausea and pain I felt trying to down the raw, shiny pieces of fish. I didn't know at the time it was because of my inflammed appendix. Despite not feeling well, Nathanial managed to convince me to eat with him: “I can’t enjoy this alone. Come on.”
And he guilted me in to sushi again tonight. I just found out I am allergic to soy. Turns out raw fish is quite repulsive without soy sauce to disguise it. But I swallow my entire plate of Chirashi fast, so I don’t have to taste it. I was hoping to eat that arugala salad with chick peas I had at home. Now after working harder than I ever had at Fiona’s apartment, the meal we have costs more than what I earned today. It’s getting late and Nathanial is savoring a Sapporo. I notice the staff get fidgitiy. They walk back and forth ask if we’ve paid the check, etc, and I know they want to get us out of there so they can go home.
“We should go, I think they’re ready to close.”
“It’s only five past eleven,” he says, “and plus I gave them twenty percent.”
“So for ten dollars they should stay all night.”
“You can’t let me enjoy anything can you?”
He chugs and when we get to the car he says that’s the job they chose and staying late for a lousy 10$ tip split between 5 people is part of the deal just like him doing the job of three people and working 80 hours a week is part of his job. I tell him he’s right, that I’m just sensitive to people working in hospitality. A year ago before I ever worked in this industry, I would have lingered at Jpan all night slugging Sapporo with him, rolling my eyes when the waitress tries to usher us out. Still the night is ruined and that [censored] I was looking forward to giving never happens.
